Serving Your Church

A parish church draws its strength from the active participation of its members. Sacred Heart Church has many ministries, organizations and activities that depend on our parish family members to make them vibrant and successful in their endeavors. No one should be satisfied to sit around waiting for others to make our church alive with the work of Our Lord. In this twenty-first century, each one of us should be willing to be the hands of Christ and work to make our church strong in worship and in the many ministries and activities that need volunteers.  Only a few are listed here, for other volunteer opportunities, call the Rectory at 394-0757.

Get involved! Join Christ’s team and get active in His work!

Funeral Luncheons

After the graveside service following a Mass of Christian burial, many families like to return to the Blue Room and share food and memories with friends and family members.  A need exists for more volunteers to help set up, prepare, and clean up after these luncheons.  Every family does not schedule a luncheon and this ministry does not take a great deal of your time.  Are you willing to volunteer to assist us?  Please call the Rectory (394-0757) or Susan Grover (291-9315) to volunteer or for more information.

Monthly Socials

We are in need of parishioners to volunteer once a year for one of our monthly socials.  Core committees are in place, but we need more hands to help.  Will you please offer your help once a year for your church family?  Sign up sheets will be on the narthex bulletin board.  Please offer your help.  Thank you.

Parish Health Ministry

The Parish Health Ministry has indicated a need for volunteers to transport parishioners to doctor appointments or to Mass.  Others needs included visiting the homebound, providing meals in time of need, and visiting/telephoning members after hospital discharge.

Telephone calls/visits to members after hospital discharge began May 2, 2004. Calls are made by nurse parishioner volunteers using questionnaires to assess the spiritual and physical needs of the individual. If hands-on personal care is required, referrals to appropriate community agencies are made.

For this to run smoothly, it is important for the Rectory to have your correct address and phone number.

This ministry will continue to meet the future needs of the parish but willing volunteers are needed. To volunteer, ask questions, or make suggestions, call MaryAnn Smith @ 392-7418.

Ministry To The Homebound

Some of our homebound parishioners are eager to receive Communion each Sunday. The presence of Our Lord in this Sacrament is their strength. If you feel called to minister in this area your presence is needed. Our Special Ministers to the homebound serve each Sunday every fourth month. Preparation to serve as a Eucharistic Minister is provided by the Diocese. Eucharistic Ministers can serve at Mass and/or visit our homebound. In addition to the Diocesan workshop, orientation to visit the homebound is provided by our parish. Call Marilynn at the Rectory (394-0757) if you have questions.

RCIA For Children

Our RCIA for Children program can use your help. We are in need of people who are willing to serve as assistants in the classes. The classes meet each Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. beginning on September 13 at St. Joseph Church. We share the program with St. Joseph’s and meet on alternate months at each of the churches. Please volunteer whatever time you can offer to this program. Please call the Rectory (394-0757)
